MANILA, Philippines – One of the Philippines’ best young volleyball players is set to try her luck overseas as National University veteran hitter Alyssa Solomon officially confirmed her application for the Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Asian Quota import draft on Sunday, March 9.

Already a two-time UAAP champion and annual MVP contender, the Lady Bulldogs standout has her sights set on a golden farewell with a possible third title at the conclusion of the Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament and made it clear that her goals have not changed with NU riding a 5-0 start.

“Actually [my application] was kind of sudden since I’m still focused here in the UAAP,” Solomon said in Filipino after NU’s sweep of reeling UP on Sunday afternoon. “An agent approached me and asked if I want to tryout for KOVO. I asked if I needed to go there, but it was just online, so there’s no problem.”

Solomon, also a vital prospect of the Alas Pilipinas women’s volleyball team alongside two-time UAAP MVP teammate Bella Belen, will certainly be a needle mover for any team here or overseas given her 6-foot-1 frame and spiking prowess at the opposite spiker position.

A third UAAP championship in her swan song season will definitely boost her resume on her way out the collegiate scene, and Solomon is dead-set on making it happen before her time is up.

Should Korea not pan out, Solomon also bared that she has a second option, but opted to stay tight-lipped on where it could be.

For now, Solomon joins fellow volleyball standouts Majoy Baron of PLDT, Maddie Madayag of the S.VLeague’s Kurobe, and Mars Alba of Choco Mucho in the KOVO aspirants’ list for the April 11 draft. – Rappler.com
